Infection figures reported by RIVM over the past 24 hours incomplete due to ICT malfunction | NOW

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported 8,669 new corona infections on Saturday. That is a lot less than Friday, when more than ten thousand positive tests (10,007) were registered for the first time. This can largely be explained by an ICT malfunction in the computer systems of the GGDs, the Ministry of Health (VWS) reports.

According to the ministry, the actual number of positive corona tests is higher. The malfunction has now been resolved, but it is still unclear how many reports are missing in Saturday’s daily figures. It is also not clear what exactly was the matter with the computer systems.

A spokesperson says that the missing figures will be processed in the figures that will be released on Sunday. Then the number of reported new positive tests will probably be a lot higher. “The average of the figures for today and tomorrow will give a more accurate picture,” said the ministry.

55 corona-related deaths have been recorded so far

55 corona-related deaths have been recorded to date. A total of 253 deaths have been recorded as of Tuesday. In comparison, the RIVM registered 185 deaths in the entire last week.

The figures are sometimes passed on to the RIVM with a delay. That means that not all of these corona patients died or tested positive in the past 24 hours.

The delay can also vary from day to day. For example, fewer infections are often passed on at the weekend, after which a catch-up follows on Monday, which becomes visible in Tuesday’s figures.

Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) called breaking the limit of ten thousand positive corona tests Friday “worrisome”, but no reason to come up with tougher measures. The cabinet first wants to await the effects of the package of measures of 13 October.

The cabinet and experts will meet on Sunday and Monday to put the latest figures into perspective. De Jonge said on Friday that a second lockdown is a scenario that is on the table.

The cabinet will announce on Monday whether a new press conference will follow on Tuesday.

The reported numbers since last week

  • Sunday: 8,175 positive tests (+34), 15 deaths
  • Monday: 8,015 positive tests (+7), 17 deaths
  • Tuesday: 8,182 positive tests (+167), 46 dead
  • Wednesday: 8,764 positive tests (+582), 59 deaths
  • Thursday: 9,283 positive tests (+519), 46 dead
  • Friday: 10,007 positive tests (+724), 47 deaths
  • Saturday: 8,669 positive tests (-1,338), 55 deaths (incomplete)

284 new hospital admissions, 52 patients by ic

The National Coordination Center for Patient Dissemination (LCPS) reports 284 new hospital admissions (+36) and 52 (+9) admissions to intensive care units (ICs) on Saturday. A total of 2,115 corona patients have now been hospitalized. 1,614 of them are in regular departments.

On Friday, for the first time since the start of the second wave, two IC patients were transferred to Germany.
