‘Bill on corona app not finalized before September 1’ | Inland

On Friday, the cabinet approved the bill, which provides a legal basis for the new app, which should warn people if they have been close to an infected person. It includes provisions on better protection of personal data and a ban on misuse of the app. It has also been established that the use of the app is voluntary and that an obligation cannot be imposed by employers, for example. There is a fine for violation.

Initially, De Jonge thought that the CoronaMelder could fall under the Public Health Act (Wpg), but the Dutch Data Protection Authority felt that the corona app needed a more solid legal basis. The House agrees. The temporary law for the app is added to the existing law.

Second wave

The House sets its own agenda. A start can be made, however, such as with a written round of questions, says D66 MP Kees Verhoeven. He thinks it would be better to treat the law carefully and introduce it a little later, than to scrape it off and then it may later turn out that it is not good enough. He does see the need for a quick introduction in connection with a possible second corona wave. The app supports the GGD with investigations into contacts of people who turn out to be infected with the virus.

The Senate also has to consider the law for the CoronaMelder. That can also be done quickly if necessary.

In addition to this law, a temporary Covid-19 law is also in preparation. This law must provide a legal basis for the current corona measures taken on the basis of the Public Health Act.
