5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri visited Rome, Italy. Megawati’s presence was to attend a meeting with world figures to discuss nominations for winners of the 2024 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity or the 2024 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity.
The General Chair of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) DPP arrived in Rome on Saturday (16/12) evening and arrived at the De Russie Hotel at 19.00 local time. He was welcomed directly by Zayed Award Secretary General Mohamed Abdelsalam and Zayed Award Program Manager Khadija Kabli.
Megawati then chatted with Mohamed Abdelsalam in a room at the De Russie Hotel. Also accompanying Megawati, Chair of the PDIP DPP for Legal Affairs, Yasonna Laoly, and Indonesia’s Extraordinary Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Holy See of the Vatican, Michael Trias Kuncahyono. Then, the Chair of the PDIP DPP for Foreign Affairs, Ahmad Basarah and Zuhairi Misrawi, both of whom are also Megawati’s representatives in the 2024 Zayed Award.
Megawati and Mohamed Abdelsalam chatted casually and jokingly for approximately 10 minutes. The atmosphere at the meeting was very warm. Megawati also talked a little about her journey during the flight from Jakarta to Rome for approximately 16 hours.
“The trip was quite smooth and there were no obstacles. It was filled with reading books and resting,” said Megawati.

On that occasion, Mohamed Abdelsalam really appreciated and paid respect to Megawati who was willing to come to Italy and be a judge for the Zayed Award. He also revealed that Megawati is a figure who continues to fight for women’s rights, so Megawati is considered very appropriate to be a judge in this event.
“We really appreciate and respect Mrs. Megawati who wants to be here and be a judge for the Zayed Award,” said Mohamed Abdelsalam.
