NEW DELHI, KOMPAS.TVThe Indian public has been shocked by the video calling for genocide against the Muslim minority in recent days. The call was made by a Hindu religious leader at an event attended by representatives of India’s current ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The call has also drawn criticism from various parties. As of Friday (12/24/2021), the Indian police claimed to have launched an investigation into the hate speech.

The event, which took place in Haridwar, Uttarakhand state, was attended by hardline Hindu groups.

As reported Al Jazeera, a speaker called on the audience that they should not be afraid of going to prison for killing Muslims.

“Even if only a few hundred of us become soldiers and kill two million of them, we will win… Only with this attitude can you protect sanatana dharma (Hinduism’s eternal form of truth), ”said a speaker in the video that was spread.

The woman then asked the audience to pray to Nathuram Godse, the Hindu extremist who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in 1948.

Another speaker, Prabodhanand Giri, a hardline Hindu leader, also called for a “cleansing” of minorities.

“Like Myanmar (the Rohingya genocide), police, politicians, soldiers and every Hindu in India must take up arms and carry out a purge. There is no other option,” he said.

In addition to hate speech against Muslims, incitement to murder against the Sikh minority was also called for in this event.
