Indian politician Nupur Sharma’s excuse for insulting the Prophet Muhammad

As reported Hindustan TimesThursday (9/6/2022), Sharma in a statement via Twitter on June 5 last admitted that his controversial comments were made in anger when they were involved in a debate.

It is known, Sharma’s controversial comments were made while attending a debate on local television discussing the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi.

“I have been involved in a debate on television for the past few days, wherein my Lord Shiva ‘Aaradhya’ was insulted. It was said in front of me that it is not a Shivling but a fountain which can be found on every walkway in Delhi and people should come to it and worship him,” Sharma wrote in a Hindi-language statement via Twitter on June 5.

“I cannot tolerate repeated insults being made against Lord Shiva and I say some things with anger. I retract my words if they have hurt anyone’s religious sentiments,” he stressed.

Sharma’s explanation refers to the context of a Hindu claim that Shivling was found inside the Gyanvapi compound during a court-ordered survey last month. Shivling is the name for a statue or statue of Lord Shiva.
