Index – Domestic – Accident surgery stopped at Ajka Hospital

The collapse of the system can be followed in a live broadcast, and the acute inpatient emergency surgical care in the Hungarian Imre Hospital in Ajka will be eliminated. The ward has to be emptied by Thursday, as they are forced to switch to care for coronavirus patients, wrote health expert Kunsz Zsombor on 444.

Patients in the area were redirected to the hospital in Veszprém, whose outpatient care was completely stopped in addition to the acute cases – as Covid care was also severely reorganized. needed to execute. Cardiology and metabolism patients from Veszprém are currently cared for by the Balatonfüred State Heart Hospital due to the conversion of 36 beds in the internal medicine department number two to Covid care.

Coronavirus patients were also treated by a number of internal medicine departments and a portion of the trauma department, and the neurology department had to be merged with otolaryngology. In other words, the accident tasks in Ajka will be transferred to a hospital that can no longer provide its own care, the expert reported.

According to Kunsz Zsombor, this will result in doctors being forced to postpone further surgeries, and if a more serious accident occurs, the system will stop or the patient will die during onward transport. In addition, the lack of people and the lack of resources hinder safe care anyway, so the employees turned to the director general of the Veszprém hospital in writing. The conditions in the Covid ward of the emergency department are also deplorable, there is no bed, and feverish, choking patients are waiting their turn. According to the letter quoted by Kunetz Zsombor:

Providing oxygen is becoming increasingly difficult. (…) Currently, we can supply up to 5 people at a time, while an average of 10 people are inside.

The specialist added, partly due to the transition to Covid care and partly due to the “extremely stupid human resource management” there is also a hospital in Budapest where doctors “entertain each other” due to the cessation of elective care. Mortality rates are significantly increased by the fact that often 10 to 10 intensive care patients receive a single intensive care unit, whereas normally one patient would receive two patients.

We contacted the National Hospital Directorate General in the case; as soon as we receive answers to our questions, we will update our article.
