Seismic activity is located in the West-Southwest sector at an average distance of 6.0 km from the Arenas crater. The record of a volcano-tectonic earthquake occurred at 07:04 at a depth of 4.1 km, reported as felt by officials of the Los Nevados National Natural Park, “the SGC explained.
In addition to the tremor registered on Saturday morning, the volcanic massif has produced ash that has fallen on urban areas of Manizales, Chinchiná and Villamaría in recent weeks.

The entity also reported that the volcano’s activity continues at Yellow or III level and continues to emit water vapor and gases, mainly Sulfur Dioxide (SO2). He also reiterated that phenomena such as earthquakes swarms, some of them felt, ash emissions, lahars, morphological changes, noise and odors of volcanic gases, among others, can occur at this level.
The Caldas Risk Management authorities indicated that, although the volcano’s instability has already lasted For more than nine years, it is vital not to get used to their behavior and to be attentive to official information.
“It is not ruled out that there is an acceleration of the process, implying greater instability and consequently changes in its level of activity. The call to all is to be attentive”, indicated Félix Ricardo Giraldo Delgado, director of the Head of Risk Management, Medium Environment and Climate Change of Caldas.
