Intellectual property when it has high economic value needs to be protected.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR — In order to increase patent acquisition, the Institute for Science and Technology Area (LKST) IPB University held a Patent Drafter Training. The training was held at the IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor, 7-8 July 2022. A total of 31 lecturers/researchers representing faculties, schools and study centers within IPB University participated in this training.
Dr. Rokhani Hasbullah as deputy head of the Business Incubator and Industrial Partnership Division – LKST IPB University said that this event was quite important because the participants who attended would be representatives of the department whose one of the tasks was to oversee research results at IPB University to obtain patents. “As soon as you see a simple patent, it will be easy to copy, why is it simple to patent because it has a high economic value. Intellectual property, no matter how simple it is when it has high economic value, needs to be protected,” he said as quoted in the release received Republika.co.idTuesday (12/7/2022).
Dr. drh I Ketut Mudite Adnyane explained that in this training participants were given a variety of materials including: introduction to Intellectual Property (IP) systems and management; tracing and analyzing patent documents (patent searching) and preparation of patent document specifications (patent drafting). “Furthermore, the practice of searching for documents is carried out” paten and preparation of patent document specifications. On the second day, there was a follow-up to the practice of compiling patent documents and also presentations of patent drafters by participants. The patent drafter is expected to become an extension of the function of the KI LKST IPB in their respective work units,” he explained.
Dr. Ketut, who was also the resource person, emphasized that one of the important documents that will determine the acceptance or rejection of a patent application is the patent specification document or patent description.
”Paten searching This is very important because looking at examples of patent documents can help lecturers prepare patent documents. One of the most important things in a patent document is the claim, how to make a claim from the findings, it must be known in the drafting of the patent so that it is appropriate,” he explained.
Furthermore, he said, LKST IPB University is an innovation management unit whose one of its duties is to facilitate patent drafting, technology valuation, promotion and bridging industry. “LKST also seeks to increase the level of technological readiness through scaling up, so LKST seeks to complete the facilities, namely through: pilot plant and teaching industry“he said.
To assist the participants in preparing the patent draft, two Patent Drafters LKST IPB University, Nurul A Ramadhani and Luluk Annisa were presented in this training.
