In the name of ecology. The legendary alcohol will be sold in paper

According to him, the British beverage manufacturer with a 200-year tradition wants to contribute to the protection of the environment. For the time being, Johnnie Walker is sold in glass bottles that produce carbon dioxide, and plastic is also included in the package. The news came from a BBC server.

According to the company, the new Johnnie Walker whiskey packaging will be made entirely of pulp and fully recyclable. Diageo will launch it next spring. According to available information, the newly established company Pulpex is to start producing packaging for drinks from Unilever and PepsiCo.

Manufacturers of consumer goods are increasingly responding to demands to reduce the amount of plastic consumed in the packaging of food and other goods. For example, in Europe, according to ING analysts, in 2018, 8.2 million tonnes of plastics fell on food and beverage packaging.

According to Diageo, it uses less than five percent of plastic material, but together with Unilever and PepsiCo they want to reduce this share a bit and replace some parts with at least recyclable plastic. The initiative is part of the UN Program for Sustainable Development until 2025.

Other major beverage producers are also trying to reduce planetary pollution and make production more sustainable. The Danish brewery Carlsberg works on cardboard packaging for beer, while the British company Frugalpac produces cardboard packaging for wine from recycled paper with a “food insert”. On the other hand, the American beverage giant Coca-Cola stated in January that it does not stop producing disposable plastic cans, because consumers still want them.
