Essen. Surprising turn in Essen: The Contilia Group has withdrawn from its announcement to sell the Katholische Klinikum Essen GmbH. Instead, two out of three hospitals are now to be closed permanently.
The Contilia Group has decided that the Marienhospital in Essen– Old meals and the St. Vincenz Hospital in Stoppenberg are abandoned and no longer operated.

The Philippus Foundation in Borbeck is to be preserved and expanded. The last time it became known in January was that the group wanted to sell all of the GmbH’s hospitals.

The diocese of Essen is shocked by the decision and is particularly concerned about the employees. Vicar General Klaus Pfeffer told Radio Essen: “This is a severe blow for elderly people and rightly causes great disappointments for many people.”
He hopes that the building services and administration staff will find new jobs or be integrated elsewhere by Contilia.
