In the hunting tragedy of Vilaka region, the son shot his father / Article / LSM.lv

Weekend brought a tragic message from Vilaka district, where a hunter was shot during the hunt. Police are currently explaining the circumstances of the incident, but experts point out that the accident was caused by a serious breach of security. Latvian Television is aware that it has affected one family – a son has shot his father during a hunt. –

The accident in Žīguri, Viļaka region, took place on Saturday during a hunt. Namely, hunters in a certain forest area stand on the road or forest trail with a certain distance from each other, forming a line of hunters. Engines run through the forest in parallel. A hunter standing in the line of hunters may leave his place only when the engines have completed their journey through the forest, called a mast.

“The mast had not been driven out yet, the engines were still driving this mast, the hunting manager has left his designated parking lot, moved along this line of hunters like the engines,” said Valters Lūsis, the head of the Hunting Department of the State Forest Service.

The hunter, who sent the fateful shot, had left his place on the hunter’s line and went 3-4 meters deeper into the forest.

“He simply shot at the sound, at some movement, at the noise through the Christmas trees that covered the target and with a carbine, a hunting firearm bullet, mortally wounded the hunter, the hunting leader in the abdomen,” said Lūsis.

“It was found that the alleged culprit, a man born in 1991, and the deceased had violated several hunting regulations, as well as taken negligent actions, which also resulted in the accident,” police were informed.

A specialist of the State Forest Service pointed out that the shooter had violated important hunting regulations – by entering deeper into the forest, he had arbitrarily changed his location.

Therefore, it is necessary to make shots from an unauthorized angle, in addition, in the direction of the hunter’s line. The law also makes it clear that it is not allowed to shoot if the target is not clearly visible, it is covered by trees, bushes or grass.

“The most important thing is that he was shot at a vaguely visible target – if he had already seen a person coming, he would have been convinced of the target, most likely, of course, would not have made such a shot. It is unequivocally clear that

simply hearing something and shooting is not acceptable, it is in no way a justifiable action, “Lūsis emphasized.

Latvian Television is aware that in the tragic accident, the son killed his father’s life. Section 123 (2) of the Criminal Code, after which criminal proceedings have been instituted for what happened on Saturday, provides for imprisonment for a term of up to five years, temporary deprivation of liberty or forced labor.
