South Korea has recorded a record daily rate of new cases of COVID-19 for the third day in a row. Reported by the Renhap agency on Saturday, July 10.

The day before, 1,378 cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed – the maximum mark since the registration of the first cases of coronavirus in the country on January 20, 2020. Moreover, in South Korea for four days in a row, more than 1.2 thousand cases of the virus per day.

The country is experiencing the fourth wave of coronavirus, with an increase in cases of the COVID-19 delta strain.

At the same time, 11.3% of the population in South Korea is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and 30.3% of residents received the first dose of the vaccine. Authorities hope to achieve herd immunity – with more than 70% of the population vaccinated – by this November.

So far, the authorities have announced new restrictions that will be in effect for two weeks from Monday in Seoul, Gyeonggi province and Incheon city. In particular, meetings of residents of more than three people will be banned after 18:00, restaurants will be able to receive visitors until 22:00, and only relatives will be able to attend weddings and funerals. Entertainment facilities will also be closed.
