A campaign event hosted by Democrat Bernie Sanders was held in New Hampshire on Monday (February 10), and The Strokes featured prominent guests. The New Yorkers were already very active over the weekend and indicated their new album, which will probably be called “The New Abnormal” and will be released on April 10th. At the event for Sanders there were even more highlights. It started with the introduction of new songs and ended with the band causing some chaos with their track “New York City Cops”.
It’s no secret that Bernie Sanders is relatively popular with musicians in the USA, and The Strokes also support the “left-wing” Democrats. That’s why they played a small concert at his election event in the Whittemore Center Arena in Durham, where they performed two new songs alongside well-known songs such as “Someday” or “Hard To Explain” with “Bad Decisions” and “At The Door”. The latter stood out in particular, as it shows a new side of the band with its prominent synthesizer sound and the neo-futuristic comic video.
The highlight of the show happened at the very end. Frontman Julian Casablancas brought the audience onto the stage for the song “New York City Cops”. The irony of it all showed itself in the visibly overwhelmed police officers who tried to bring order into the matter while the singer hit them with the line “New York City Cops, they ain’t too smart”. A section of it is currently attracting attention on Twitter.
