In May, 18.2% of employees in Latvia worked remotely – Labor Market – Financenet

Among them, 22.2 percentage points more women worked remotely than men – 61.4% and 38.6%, respectively.

In May, 23.9% of employees had the opportunity to work remotely, but 76.1% did not have such an opportunity. Only 5.8% of employees who had the opportunity to work remotely did not use it.

The most remote workers were in the age groups 25-34 years (26.3%) and 45-54 years (26.1%). The majority of men working remotely (32.5%) were in the age group 25-34 years, but women (34.2%) – in the age group 45-54 years.

The highest share of teleworkers (20.8%) in the total number of employees of the corresponding age group in May 2020 was in the age group 25-34 years, but the lowest (14.9%) in the age group 35-44 years.

The collected data show that in May 2020, 47% of all teleworkers were employed in the trade and services sector. Slightly fewer (43.5%) employees worked in the other services sector, while 8.4% of all teleworkers were employed in the manufacturing sector.

The highest share (26.9%) of teleworkers in the total number of employees in the respective economic activity sector was still observed in the other services sector. Slightly more than a fifth (21.1%) of employees in the trade and services sector worked remotely, while in the manufacturing sector only 6.2% of employees worked remotely.

Senior specialists, two-fifths (40.7%) of managers and slightly more than a quarter (28.6%) of specialists worked most often (51.7%) remotely. Only every eleventh (9.3%) employee (office worker) or service and sales employee worked remotely.

Half (50.6%) of teleworkers worked full-time in May, a fifth (20.5%) regularly 3-5 days a week, 17.4% regularly 1-2 days a week, and 6.8% employees – regularly part of a working day or a few hours.

In May 2020, the Labor Force Survey on telework surveyed 1.1 thousand people aged 15 to 74 in 787 households.
