In many places in Latvia, the April 1 heat record was already broken at midnight

It was +18.3 degrees in Daugavpils at midnight. The previous highest air temperature recorded in Latvia’s second largest city on April 1 was +17.2 degrees in 1990.

The heat record for the first of April was also improved in Alūksne, where it was +14.9 degrees in the middle of the night, as well as in Dagda, where the thermometer showed +17.6 degrees at midnight, and in Priekuļi, where +16.3 degrees were recorded. The record was also broken in Rezekne, where it was +17 degrees at midnight.

At two o’clock in the morning, the air temperature at the national observation stations was from +4.7 degrees in Kolka to +16.2 degrees in Daugavpils and Rēzekne.

At the beginning of the night, thunder rumbled in places in the northeastern part of the country.

It has already been reported that on Sunday the highest air temperature in the country was +22.8 degrees in Zvejniekciem. This is a new heat record for March 31 and the month nationwide.

The maximum air temperature record for March was broken in all observation stations, except for Kolka and Mērsrag, where the southeast wind brought cool air from the Gulf of Riga.

The previous highest air temperature recorded in the country in the first month of spring was +20.8 degrees on March 30, 1968 in Mersrag.

On the other hand, the national heat record for April is +27.9 degrees on April 24, 2000 in Riga.
