In Hérault, a method simplifies administrative texts for the intellectually disabled

“It is complicated”, notes Elodie holding a brochure in her hands. The sentences are much too long and some words lack simplicity. So with her colleagues from the ESAT (Establishment and Service for Assistance through Work) of Castelneau-le-Lez, she will translate this incomprehensible document into FALC for people who are like her, with intellectual disabilities. This method, which is also useful for illiterates or foreigners, consists of transcribing texts that are too elaborate in everyday language. “It is a powerful integration tool but not well known enough”, regrets Elodie Frasquet, FALC operator.

At the ESAT of Castelenau-le-Lez, Elodie and her comrades have all followed FALC training. They are now experts in transcription. They simplify all types of texts, magazines and brochures, collectively, during workshops led by Elodie Frasquet. A skill that seduced Place Beauvau: the Ministry of the Interior entrusted them with the translation into FALC of travel and curfew certificates. A great recognition for the whole team.
