The number of devastating flood victims in Germany rose to at least 165 on Monday, with rescue services continuing to search for those missing.
Many of the victims drowned in the cellars, from which they tried to take their valuables away, while others were simply washed away by the flood waters.
Rescue workers are also in a hurry to clean up the devastation left by the floods and rebuild gas, electricity and telephone lines.
In the Land of Rhineland-Palatinate, 117 deaths have been confirmed, but the number of deaths in North Rhine-Westphalia has risen to 47. One person has also died in Bavaria.
Heavy rains have also hit Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Austria in recent days.
In Belgium, at least 31 people have died in the floods.
