In Fréjus, individuals attack a police car, in an area marked by drug trafficking. “An Observatory of the penal response”
In Fréjus, after several hot nights, the situation calmed down. “Yesterday evening, there were very few events to deplore, only a fire in a garbage container, explains Yohan Sebrier, departmental delegate of the Alliance police union for the Var. There were no particular problems with my colleagues last night. “ What happened ? “There were three evenings in the week, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, when the young people of the district of La Gabelle, in Fréjus, attacked the surveillance cameras of the city.”
“Sunday evening, during the intervention of the staff of the National Police and Municipal Police, they were taken to task by these young people: fire from mortars, throwing projectiles. CCTV cameras have been installed in this area for several months by the municipality of Fréjus. These cameras seem to bother. “ However, do not the young people arrested get out quickly despite the prosecution? “This is why we asked for an Observatory of the penal response. We ask for the sentence incurred, the sentence pronounced and the sentence actually executed.”
“Every day, colleagues are taken to task”
“Reinforcements arrived from Toulon in the area for the night yesterday, with a better distribution of local personnel on the time slots. This helped calm the situation a little bit”, estimates Yohan Sebrier. Is it because the police are attacking the deal points and the Minister of the Interior was in the region that the traffickers are responding? “I don’t know if it’s related. Every day, colleagues are attacked in the neighborhoods and surveillance cameras disturb.”
“In the Var, we have several sensitive neighborhoods, near Toulon and La Seyne, with the same problems as those encountered in Fréjus.” Is it more and more difficult to get to these neighborhoods, as is the case in Marseille? “In these neighborhoods, work is still being done. Few people work there on delinquency, to dismantle drug trafficking, to rescue people “ Are there weapons in the neighborhoods? “There are some but we have not yet reached this stage where colleagues are being shot. An arms trafficker was recently arrested in a city of Toulon.”
