In Canada, the evacuation of the Ambassador Bridge to the United States at a standstill

Published on :

The evacuation of the Ambassador Bridge by Canadian police was at a standstill on Saturday evening. The strategic border bridge with the United States was blocked by protesters opposed to sanitary measures on Saturday, when thousands of other protesters marched in the federal capital Ottawa for a large rally.

The evacuation by Canadian police of demonstrators blocking the Ambassador Bridge at the border with the United States appeared to be at a standstill on Saturday February 12, when a court order ordered an end to the movement.

Traffic has been interrupted for five days on this bridge, which is usually the busiest land link between Canada and its southern neighbor and on which the supply of spare parts for several auto factories in the Detroit region largely depends.

Although Canadian police managed to push back the protesters at the entrance to the bridge, more and more people were pouring into the area and evacuation operations seemed to have stalled.

Sixteenth day of protest

The movement of “freedom convoys” in Canada, which began in the federal capital, Ottawa, with the mobilization of heavy truck drivers opposed to the vaccination obligation imposed for crossing the American border, entered its sixteenth day.

It has since turned into a protest movement against restrictions linked to the Covid-19 epidemic, with new demonstrators joining it in light vehicles.

During a meeting with his advisers, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stressed that border crossings could not remain closed and that all scenarios for ending the crisis were being considered, shows a report published on Saturday evening by his office.
