“in Biéville-Beuville, we are 100 times more affected than in the rest of Calvados”

Biéville-Beuville was one of the first epidemic centers in the region, near Caen (14). Today, the number of official cases positive for C-19 is high there, even if the specific measures taken early on have helped to curb rampant contamination.

In Biéville-Beuville, barely 10 km from Caen (14), it all started for the mayor of the town on Monday March 8. “I learned that a resident was positive for coronavirus, it turned out that this person was part of the gym club, I closed all the rooms in the town, the library, prohibited gatherings of more than 50 people and on Tuesday, the school was also closed”explains the mayor of the village, Dominique Vinot-Battistoni.

The next day, Tuesday afternoon, all people from Biéville-Beuville who wanted to be tested were able to meet the health teams on site, in a communal hall. More than thirty participants in the gym club were already confined.

Then, unsurprisingly, the number of contamination increased in the town, we went from 6 to 15, thus becoming a “cluster”, an epidemic focus, with grouped cases. “

Coronavirus: what is a “cluster”? What does a passage to “stage 3” imply?

Since March 11, Biéville-Beuville has been considered a cluster. At the same time, the number of people infected with coronavirus is increasing in France and Emmanuel Macron is speaking this evening to announce a possible transition to stage 3. We take stock of what all these terms mean.

Then everything was closed, golf last, only businesses remained open: “in a way, we spontaneously put in place the first barrier measures, social distancing or even the wearing of masks for certain inhabitants, this awareness before these measures were generalized surely saved us from a catastrophic situation of all evidence”.

“We were scaredsays a resident, We tried to take precautions not to spread this virus.

The pharmacist of the commune Pierre Genser abounds in his direction: “ Admittedly we were stamped cluster but concretely, it did not result in a particular accompaniment of the authorities like the Regional Health Agency which always shines besides by its absence, the supervisory authority left us to manage, if some residents have shown good citizenship, others, on the other hand, have continued to do anything.

First round elections under high vigilance

Obviously in this context, we have redoubled our vigilance for this first round unfortunately maintained and whose results in the municipality are obviously largely distorted” continues the mayor forced, since with the postponement of the second round, to remain in activity. “Again, we have surely reduced the risk compared to other municipalities.

Testimony of Nadine, survivor of Covid-19: “be careful, this virus has tough skin!”

She was one of the first people to test positive in Bieville-Beuville. Nadine was lucky not to fall seriously ill, but she insists on the need to remain confined as this coronavirus is contagious: “in my small group of ten girlfriends, we have all been contaminated”.

No deaths to date but two serious cases

But let’s be clear, our municipality is hard hit, we are at about sixty cases officially tested positive for C-19, at the level of the municipality this means that we are almost 100 times more affected than the rest of the department of Calvados. To date, 5 people have been hospitalized, two of whom are in serious condition… We remain a strong epidemic focus.

For the pharmacist, these official figures are below reality. “The family contagion in particular was strong but invisible. If we managed to trace certain contaminations, the members of the gym club were for example part of other clubs, today, the members of these families, the wives, the husbands , the children are no longer tested, they are simply confined. It is plausible to say that several hundred people are in fact infected in the village, with or without symptoms. ”

Report by Erwan de Miniac and Cyril Duponchel on March 30, almost 3 weeks after the appearance of the first cases of C-19 in Biéville-Beuville:

To date, no deaths have been reported in Biéville-Beuville. Due to the cluster classification, the retirement home had been quickly confined.
