Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Ministry of Health (Ministry of Health) noted that two patients were exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 variant B.1.1.529 or the variant Omicron in Indonesia died. This finding is the first death of Omicron, which is characterized by high transmission power.

Director of Prevention and Control of Directly Infectious Diseases (P2PML) of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, at the same time added that the two Omicron patients who died were reported to have comorbidities. But he has not disclosed the type of disease.

“One case was a local transmission, died at the Sari Asih Hospital in Ciputat. And the other case was a foreign traveler (PPLN), died at the Sulianti Saroso Hospital,” said Nadia, quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Health, Saturday (22/1).

Nadia continued, the majority of Omicron cases in Indonesia so far have come from PPLN. However, the findings of local transmission cases are also starting to increase, meaning that Omicron has spread quite a bit in the community.

Nadia also noted that as of January 21, there were 1,161 cases of the Omicron variant in Indonesia. Of the thousands of Omicron cases, 831 are cases of Foreign Travel Actors (PPLN). Then 282 cases of local transmission, and 48 others are still being investigated for the source of transmission.

The Covid-19 Vaccination Spokesperson then reminded the public to immediately access two-dose Covid-19 vaccinations to boosters to provide additional protection for residents from transmission of the Omicon variant and other Covid-19 variants that continue to mutate.

“Keep wearing masks, maintaining distance, washing hands with soap, avoiding crowds, and reducing mobility in daily life practices to provide optimal protection,” said Nadia.
