With the excuse of the covid and the fight against environmental pollution, the Barcelona’s town hall is implementing its crusade against private mobility that already started in his first term, turning Barcelona into one of the cities with worse mobility and more pollution from all over Europe.
The main objective is the elimination at all cost of lanes circulation for cars, either with bike lanes, widening of sidewalks, double bus lanes, direct elimination (as in Consell de Cent street) or the bad timing of the traffic lights of many main streets in order to annoy drivers.
Average car trips in the city were about 25 minutes. Now they are 40, that is, we are 15 more minutes burning fuel and polluting by the exhaust pipe, apart from the fact that the streets are more collapsed than usual, and no matter how much effort this City Council puts in drowning traffic, cars they will not disappear.
I understand that all possible measures should be taken to avoid deaths from pollution environmental, and that we must improve quality of life of people, but the current ones are not being everything effective that they should be and are not serving that purpose.
