Importance of Pet Vaccination Certificate for Rabies Prevention

Remember that you must have your pet’s vaccination certificate

Through the Environmental Health Unit of the Ministry of Public Health, anti-rabies vaccination is being carried out. The task is carried out door to door and the inhabitants of each home must present the vaccination card for their cats or dogs, with the last dose of the vaccine applied.

Luz Angélica Salazar Aristizábal, Head of the Environmental Health Unit.

Rabies is a disease of zoonotic origin (transmitted between vertebrate animals and humans), which affects the central nervous system and is preventable by timely vaccination and treatment.

The rabies virus is transmitted through saliva by a bite, scratch, lick of mucosa or licking of injured skin, or by contact with injured skin or mucosa of a person.

Transmission to humans occurs in most cases through the bite of a rabid animal.

The objective of rabies vaccination is to prevent canines and felines from acquiring the disease and transmitting it to humans.

Rabies transmission cycle

URBAN RAGE – Urban Area

Rabies of urban origin is mainly transmitted from dogs (canines) and cats (felines).

WILD RABIES – Rural Areas

In rural areas, it originates through transmission from dogs and cats, as well as wild fauna, especially bats.
