Sunny Florence in Italy changes to a demanding task in Finland when the professor Alexander Stubb will be officially inaugurated as the President of the Republic on March 1. Already during the election campaign, he left Florence largely behind him and returned to give a farewell speech at the university on Monday.

From 2020, Stubb served as the director and professor of the School of Transnational Governance at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence. On campus, she was remembered as a punctual but on the other hand social leader who sometimes showed up to work in a pink cycling outfit.

Stubb is also well-known at the Shake Café, located about a five-minute walk from campus, where his standard portion included a health shake containing cashews and a portion called Huevos Rancheros, which includes traditional fried eggs, tortillas, and salsa.

Worked in a cafe for two years Roberto Raso remembers Stubb well. He hasn’t been seen lately, but a year ago he was active.

– He didn’t come every day, but very often he was here for brunch or lunch. Or in the mornings.

The manager of the cafe had also introduced Stubb. Raso says that the cafe was busy especially during brunch, but sometimes there was also time to chat with Stubb.

– He seems like a good guy. He was always a gentleman towards us.
