IKEA Gwangmyeong store ‘ceiling leak’… 13 people trapped in an elevator stuck rescued

Fire department “due to poor joint of indoor fire hydrant”

[서울파이낸스 이주현 기자] At the IKEA Gwangmyeong store, damage occurred in various places, such as water pouring into the business premises due to a ceiling leak and an elevator being trapped.

According to the fire department and IKEA on the 29th, an accident occurred at the IKEA Gwangmyeong store in Iljik-dong, Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do around 6:00 pm on the 28th.

The dispatched fire brigade rescued 7 and 6 people, respectively, from the two elevators where the stalling accident occurred. No one was hurt. The fire authorities closed the business early due to concerns about safety accidents and forced customers to leave.

The cause of the leak was initially estimated to be a frozen water pipe, but as a result of the investigation, it was confirmed that it was caused by a defective joint in the indoor fire hydrant.

Meanwhile, IKEA’s immature response at the time of the accident raised eyebrows among visitors. It is reported that the floor was slippery due to the water pouring from the ceiling, leading to a situation where you could fall down, and in the parking lot, even though some parked cars were exposed to falling water, the guide staff did not play any role.
