IG BAU demands more money for employees because of the construction boom

The construction industry is booming despite Corona – that’s why IG BAU Mainfranken demands that employees in the region benefit appropriately. In the upcoming collective bargaining negotiations, the union is therefore demanding, among other things, 5 percent more wages.

Last year, a total of around 2,000 new apartments were built in the city and district of Würzburg, Kitzingen and Main-Spessart – for over 400 million euros. IG BAU presents these figures with reference to the Federal Statistical Office. The boom in the industry has been going on for years and won’t change in the future either. Between 2011 and 2019, around 3,600 building permits were issued for apartments that still have to be built.

According to the Central Association of the German Construction Industry (ZDB), nationwide sales in the industry rose by six percent to 143 billion euros last year.

The collective bargaining between IG BAU and employers will take place on June 21st and 22nd.
