It will be decided tomorrow (8th) whether the former Minister of Industry, Baek Woon-gyu, will be arrested in connection with the prosecution’s investigation of the suspicion of the early closure of the Wolsong nuclear power plant.

With former Minister Baek known to have denied the allegations, whether or not a warrant is issued will also affect the investigation into the Blue House in the future.

The substantive examination of the arrest warrant requested by the prosecution against former Minister of Industry Baek Woon-gyu will be held at the Daejeon District Court in the afternoon of tomorrow (8th).

There are two main charges of the prosecution on the warrant.

First, it is suspected of’obstructing the exercise of ex officio abuse rights’.

It is believed that Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power has applied unreasonable pressure to immediately shut down Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 and immediately shut down its operation as a result of the board’s resolution.

The other is the charge of’obstructing business’.

Earlier, three officials from the Ministry of Industry were charged with deleting 530 nuclear power plant-related data before submitting the data to the Audit Office.

It is reported that the contents of these complaints released to the media included a number of reports from the Blue House in the data deleted by public officials.

Therefore, it is observed that the prosecution has determined that Baek intervened in the process of deleting the data and interfered with the affairs of the auditor.

In an investigation by the prosecution on the 25th of last month, Baek is known to have denied the charges.

In an earlier investigation by the auditor, Baek said that if the KHNP Board of Directors decided to shut down in consideration of economic feasibility, it would be strange to restart the operation.

At the same time, he emphasized that there was no fact that KHNP was instructed to check or confirm what KHNP is in.

If a decision is made on whether to arrest former Minister Baek, the prosecution’s investigation will likely target the Blue House.

There is a high possibility that an investigation will be conducted on personnel related to the decision to close the Wolseong nuclear power plant early, such as Cheong Wa Dae’s industrial policy secretary at the time.

It is unlikely that the direction of the investigation will change due to the arrest of former Minister Baek, but it is expected to be a measure of whether power is gained or lost.
