IFAF announces participants of the Women’s World Cup in Finland – Germany is part of it

The International Federation of American Football has announced the eight women’s national teams that will compete for the 2022 IFAF World Championship, to be held in Finland in July and August.

The top-class field of participants is led by hosts and reigning European champions Finland and reigning world champion USA. In addition, the silver and bronze medal winners from the last World Championships Canada and Mexico, the silver and bronze winners from the last European Championships Sweden and Great Britain as well as the bronze team from the European Championship 2015 Germany and finally Australia will compete. The Down Under team was trained at the 2017 World Cup by Dr. Jen Welter, who became the first woman to hold a coaching position in the NFL in 2015.

The tournament will take place from July 28th to August 8th in Vantaa, Finland. Vantaa is well acquainted with hosting international football events, having previously hosted the 2013 IFAF Women’s World Cup and the 2018 IFAF Men’s European Championship.

The World Cup is not only defined by the top teams on the field, but also by the commitment to sustainability off the field.

IFAF, which recently partnered with leading sustainability organization Play it Green, is working with host association SAJL and has committed to providing a carbon offsetting framework, a waste management program and the provision of education and training programs for all participating staff to accomplish.

In addition, the IFAF Athletes’ Commission will hold elections at the Championship. “The IFAF World Championship 2022 will provide a great showcase for the IFAF and our members,” said IFAF President Pierre Trochet. “On the field we will see exceptional talent competing for gold and off the field we will have the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to greener events.”
