Former Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla (JK) assessed that the main cause of the economic crisis currently hitting the world is the pandemic corona virus (Covid-19).
JK also advised the government to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic crisis first to solve the economic crisis problem.
“So if we want to solve the economic (crisis), we have to know the cause first, the reason for this Covid. That must first be resolved,” said JK online at the Millennial Fest, Sunday (16/8).
JK stated that the economic wheels will automatically resume running if the corona virus pandemic has been resolved properly. The current crisis is due to reduced purchasing power.
According to him, currently the majority of people only buy basic goods for daily needs rather than buying secondary goods.
Therefore, said JK, it is not surprising that the hotel business, the airline business and the textile business have suffered greatly during the corona virus pandemic.
“Because people don’t walk, people don’t come to the regions, people don’t buy things that are not important. No spending for secondary needs. luxuryand not much, “said JK.
Furthermore, JK identified that there was a change in the lifestyle of the middle class and upper class or wealthy groups in Indonesia when the pandemic occurred.
For the middle group, JK said they were saving salaries amid the corona virus pandemic. Meanwhile, the upper class who often invests, said JK, they are waiting for the situation to invest their money.
“The economic crisis is the result of the health crisis. If you want to deal with the economy quickly, how can you quickly overcome this pandemic,” said the man who is also the chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).
To date, positive cases of the corona virus (Covid-19) in Indonesia have reached 139,549 people. Of that number, 93,103 of them recovered and 6,150 people died.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has campaigned for the adaptation of a new life (AKB) in the midst of the corona virus pandemic. A number of regions have also relaxed large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).
The move was taken solely to move the economic wheels that were jammed due to the corona virus pandemic.
Jokowi also recently issued Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2020 concerning the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery.
