A hedge that looks like a monster, a miniature house for the real one and a mailbox with breasts: it’s all somewhere in a Flemish front garden, and it has a chance to win the trophy for ‘most artistic front garden in Flanders’. From the entries that Radio 1 received for this competition ‘Art and gnomes’, jury members Stief Desmet (artist) and Hannes Coudenys (the man behind Ugly Belgian Houses) have now selected ten finalists. A selection of a few gardens with a story, and the verdict of the jury: “This really shows the Flemish unruly, see.”
