IDR 17.4 Trillion Can Not Bring Barca to Win the Champions League Again

Jakarta

Barcelona has poured no less than Rp. 17.4 trillion since winning the last time Champions League. So far, the trophy collection for the event has not increased.

Barcelona haven’t won the Champions League since they last did so in the 2014/2015 season, with a 3-1 win over Juventus in the final.

Since then, a number of players have been brought in in an attempt to win their sixth title at the event. But that effort has yet to bear fruit.

Marca said, Barcelona had spent 989 million euros (around Rp.17.4 trillion) since the last time they won the Champions League, until the 2019/2020 season ended. Here are the details.

2015/2016 season: 62 million euros

Barca’s first purchase in the first season after winning his last Champions League title was for Arda Turan (40 million euros) and Aleix Vidal (22 million euros), although the two could not be registered until winter due to transfer sanctions.

2016/2017 season: 140 million euros

In the previous season, 2015/2016, Barcelona won LaLiga and Copa del Rey but were eliminated by Atletico Madrid in the semifinals so they wanted to strengthen the squad as best they could.

Six new recruits have been brought in this season. The new faces are Andre Gomes (50 million euros), Paco Alcacer (30 million euros), Samuel Umtiti (25 million euros), Lucas Digne (16 million euros), Jasper Cillessen (16 million euros), and Denis Suarez ( 3 million euros).

In the last 16 of the Champions League, Barcelona it was a successful comeback to qualify despite losing 0-4 in the first leg in Paris. But their steps were stopped by Juventus in the quarter-finals.

2017/2018 season: 389 million euros

In 2016/2017, Barcelona had to be willing to lose the LaLiga title that Real Madrid won. At that time, Real Madrid also won Champions League.

As a result, the 2017/2018 season was a big shopping moment for Barcelona, which at that time had just made a lot of money from selling Neymar to PSG.

There were recruits Philippe Coutinho (160 million euros in January), Ousmane Dembele (145 million euros), Paulinho (40 million euros), Nelson Semedo (35 million euros) and Yerry Mina (9 million euros).

This season, Barcelona stopped in the Champions League quarter-finals after being defeated by AS Roma through away goals on aggregate. The title of LaLiga became solace for the season.

2018/2019 season: 136 million euros

Barcelona have not made major purchases this season because they hope that Coutinho and Dembele will start tuning and performing according to maximum expectations.

However, there is a recruitment of five players namely Malcom (42 million euros), Arthur (40 million euros), Clement Lenglet (35 million euros), Arturo Vidal (18 million euros) and Jean-Clair Tobido (1 million euros).

Barca retained the LaLiga champions but were beaten by Liverpool in the semifinals of the Champions League.

2019/20 season: 262 million euros

Barcelona seems to be getting stifled by the failure in the Champions League. Big ambition is shown through buying activity Antoine Griezmann, who shone at Atletico Madrid, for 120 million euros.

Frenkie de Jong was also brought in (85 million euros) from Ajax, along with Neto (35 million euros) and Pedri (5 million euros) who were loaned back to Las Palmas.

Even though they have spent a lot, Barcelona still have to get confused and return to the winter transfer market with injuries to Luis Suarez and Dembele. There is Martin Braithewaite (18 million euros) who was bailed out as an emergency recruit.

Barcelona won the 2019/2020 season, with their progress in the Champions League halted in the quarter-finals with a 2-8 defeat to Bayern Munich.

A total of 989 million euros has been disbursed by Barcelona without winning Champions League again. In the midst of changing coaches, the Blaugrana had previously spent 91 million euros for the transfer of Francisco Trincao from Braga and Miralem Pjanic from Juventus. If totaled, Barcelona it has even disbursed 1,080 million euros since June 30, 2015.
