Idar-Oberstein: Incredible motive for gas station murder of cashier (20)! | Regional

Idar-Oberstein (Rhineland-Palatinate) – On Saturday evening, the cashier (20) at an Aral gas station was killed by a customer with a targeted shot in the head. The incredible motive for the murder: the corona mask requirement!

In a press conference on Monday, police and prosecutors announced details of the horrific crime. Accordingly, the 49-year-old perpetrator without mouth and nose protection came to the Aral branch around 7.45 p.m., put a six-pack of beer on the counter and wanted to pay. The cashier (20, student and temporary worker) pointed out the mask requirement and refused to give him the goods.

The man left the branch, returned around 9:25 p.m., this time wearing a mask, and again went to the sales counter with a six-pack. There he pulled the mask off his face.

Chief Public Prosecutor Kai Fuhrmann: “He shot the cashier in the head from the front.”

The killer (49, German citizen) was finally arrested on Sunday morning accompanied by a woman in front of the Idar-Oberstein police station, where he allegedly wanted to turn himself in.

Motive: mask requirement

His information on the motive is stunned: According to the chief public prosecutor Fuhrmann, the 49-year-old said in his interrogation that he forgot his respiratory protection when he first visited the branch, which is why he was refused to buy beer.

At home, he was more and more angry about the situation, took his gun and drove back to the gas station. He purposely did not wear the mask correctly in order to provoke a reaction from the cashier. Then he pulled the trigger “without hesitation”. It was clear to him that he had killed the victim.

The Corona situation is very stressful for him, which is why he saw no other way out “than to set an example now”. The man from Idar-Oberstein is in custody.

The killer had never appeared before the police. He works as a freelancer in the IT industry. When searching his apartment, the investigators found the murder weapon as well as other firearms and ammunition. The origin of the weapons still has to be clarified, because he does not have a gun license.

“He did not legally own the weapons,” said Chief Public Prosecutor Fuhrmann.
