ICW Office Demonstration Threatened by Thousands, Sparking Racism and Election Fraud Concerns in Jakarta

Coordinator of the Knowledge Management Division of Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) Wana Alamsyah was confused that her office would be demonstrated by thousands of people citing the issue of racism in Papua.

Wana said that so far his party has not prohibited the public from expressing opinions because it is a citizen’s right.

“But what we still question is the urgency regarding the issue that ICW is pushing regarding racism in Papua. Because, until now, we have never discussed the issue of racism in Papua since it was founded,” said Wana at the ICW office, Jakarta, Monday ( 2/26).

Wana also suspects that the ICW office will be demolished because recently it has frequently spoken out about fraud in the 2024 election process.

“We have never had this kind of action, so what we suspect is that one of the reasons why they came was because of our action and response to the issue of election fraud,” he said.

Wana suspects that the masses who planned to hold an action at the ICW office were part of their pay period and had been directed.

“The problem is that there are a number of groups that should be suspected of being directed or encouraged in this way, not because of the context of the conditions, but because they are suspected of being ordered or instructed,” he said.

Previously, hundreds of police personnel were on guard around the ICW office this morning. A similar situation occurred at the Lokataru office, Tebet, South Jakarta. Apart from the authorities, there were also water cannons and Brimob trucks parked there.

Wana did not know the purpose of the security guard from the authorities. However, Wana confirmed that there would be plans for a demonstration by a group of students at the ICW office.

According to Wana, the demonstrators acted on behalf of themselves as the East Love of the Republic of Indonesia Student Youth Community Forum.

Wana said that ICW received information that the number of protesters was almost 1,000 people and it was reported that they would arrive at 09.00 WIB.

However, until this afternoon there had been no mass movement to the ICW office. The situation there is still under control.
