Vienna (OTS) Today, Friday, at 7 p.m., Vienna’s mayor Michael Ludwig announced “ice free” for a total of 45 days of ice skating on Rathausplatz and in Rathauspark. After the opening show with a dance performance on the ice, in which the new lighting on the renovated town hall facade created a special atmosphere, the audience got started. “With the Eistraum we offer an attractive and enjoyable exercise program in the heart of Vienna. This year with even more space and even more offers. With the free practice area for children, the free school campaign and the 50 percent discount from the advantage club, we guarantee that the ice dream will continue to be affordable for all Viennese,” said city boss Ludwig at the ceremonial opening.

Additional new offers and discounts for online purchase

Until March 3rd, the 29th season of the Vienna Ice Dream not only offers carefree fun for blade fans in the heart of the city, but also boasts a few innovations. The Sky Rink, the ice skating rink on the “first floor”, has been expanded to include the Sky Way, so that the total ice skating area is now more than 9,500 square meters compared to last year. What is also new is that in addition to the free practice areas for children, there is an additional ice rink for ice skating beginners of all ages, which is open free of charge on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and all day on weekends. This practice area turns back into a place for curling together on weekdays from 5 p.m. The nine curling lanes must be booked in advance in the online shop .

Speaking of which: Visitors receive a 10 percent discount on tickets and all services booked in the online shop. This not only saves money, but also time, because the tickets can be scanned directly at the ice cream turnstiles. All members of the City of Vienna’s advantage club receive even more savings: on all Mondays, the ice landscape can be visited at a discount of 50 percent.

Eistraum was awarded the “ÖkoEventPlus” rating for the second time

“It is important to us that we act very sustainably in everything we do with energy,” emphasizes Mayor Ludwig. The Vienna Ice Dream is starting a test operation with solar collectors when it comes to energy-saving measures. The cooling system is sustainably designed and the outbuildings are heated using solar technology . In addition, the majority of the abrasion is reused to process the ice. Sustainability is also taken into account when it comes to the ice skates and the catering industry: the skate rental shoes are heated with the waste heat from the refrigeration machines and the food and drinks offered by the catering industry are sourced for the first time 100 percent organic quality.
