What a surprise to find yourself in this literary genre!
Ever since I started writing, I dreamed of embarking on a psychological thriller, because I wanted to screw the reader upside down. That’s what I love about this genre and I worked two and a half years on this book.
It is also very cinematic. Will it be adapted?
Who knows… I cannot take away my profession as an actress. When I write, I am very scripted, I imagine a lot of images, I project myself in scenes, it’s very scripted.
Your Sélia who passes a casting for a musical comedy with a director Dove and a singing teacher à la Armande Altaï… Any resemblance with Jenifer or Hélène Ségara is fortuitous…
Ah yes ! Rather, I put in this character traits of my character and drew inspiration from my private life and my relatives.
Because you’ve been harassed by a fan?
I am very close to my audience which is very benevolent to me and I love them, but I was harassed and threatened with death by a fan and I was forced to do what was necessary with the police. He was a youngster, I wanted to give him a chance but he did it again with another celebrity suddenly this kind of situation. I was on the alert. It is anxiety-provoking, this situation.
This novel shows the behind the scenes of showbiz, riddled with ego, rivalries, self-serving flattery …
The artistic milieu is a milieu of birds of prey. You have to have your head on your shoulders to move forward and be mentally strong. You meet harmful people there who can voluntarily draw you down or who take advantage of your naivety to achieve their ends. It is a random and psychologically harsh environment.
The heart of the story is the weight of the past and offers a last act in which we no longer know what to think of your heroine …
I wanted to mix basic subjects of bipolarity, schizophrenia and the consequences of difficult childhoods, victims of rape and abuse. I have loved ones that I have lost to whom this has happened. The person we are is the result of our childhood. We are like a tree, and our roots are essential to grow well, to move forward in life. Selia is a very complex character who has been through a lot and this is what leads her to act this way in her profession and her private life and which made her unstable, lovingly speaking.
The end is open, can we expect a sequel?
If I have the opportunity to write a volume 2, I will do so with great pleasure. In my novels, I like to give the audience the opportunity to go in the direction they want. It’s kind of my signature.
