‘I paid bribes to Jorge Glas in cash and transfers,’ says former Odebrecht executive – 2024-04-14 03:20:41

Jorge Glas

In a trial in the United States, José Conceiçao Santos, a former Odebrecht executive, claimed to have made cash payments and transfers to Jorge Glas, former vice president of Ecuador, totaling between $17 and $18 million. During his testimony, he mentioned that US authorities are aware of these payments. He also explained that some payments were channeled through his uncle Ricardo Rivera. Conceiçao pointed out that Glas did not personally request these bribes to cancel fines from the Comptroller’s Office, indicating that this matter was discussed only with Carlos Pólit.

Below is the dialogue between Carlos Pólit and José Conceiçao Santos during the trial revealed by El Universo:

Conceiçao: I remember that you always told me: I want to receive in cash, I don’t want to take into account, just so as not to have problems.

Pólit: No calculations or nonsense. I prefer me in my life… I don’t even have cash, I don’t have anything… It’s the worst, the people… They ran to open accounts in Panama xxxx.

Conceiçao: I remember that you never wanted us to pay in cash, only in…

Pólit: Nothing, that’s why I told you: open an account outside, bitch, it’s a mess xxxx, you sometimes told me.

Conceiçao: Yes, they had already asked me a few times… they give me a plant outside xxxx.

Pólit: I have nothing.

Conceiçao: …but you had given me an account of your son or something like that.

Pólit: No, it wasn’t my son’s. My son manages many client bank accounts.

Conceição: Oh, OK.

Pólit: So, everyone there has accounts on the outside. I think you made a shipment once.

Conceiçao: Yes, yes, yes.
