According to the Italian media on the 11th (local time), an 86-year-old Italian man was infected with Corona 19, and his finger died and three fingers were amputated.

A hospital official said the old man’s finger blood vessels had died from a’cytokine storm’.

Cytokine storm is a phenomenon that attacks normal cells due to excessive secretion of cytokines, an immune substance, and has been pointed out as one of the causes of worsening the condition of people infected with Corona 19.

Until now, the specific cause of this hyper-inflammatory reaction in corona19 patients is unknown.

The old man did not know that he was infected when he was infected with Corona 19. He did not have a fever and cough, which are the basic symptoms of COVID-19. However, as his finger turned black, necrosis progressed and he visited the hospital and learned that Corona 19 was confirmed.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time a Corona 19 patient has had a finger amputated.

A 54-year-old man living in California, USA, who was diagnosed with Corona 19 after going on a ski trip in northern Italy in February, had two fingers amputated due to muscle damage.

In addition, a man from Cardiff, Wales, had his left thumb amputated after infection with Corona 19.
