ENRICHED – Update the Hyundai Kona, compact crossover born in 2017 and characterized by a strong personality. The first examples will arrive between November and December, with starting prices that we estimate around 20,000 euros. Now the car is also available in a more gritty set-up N Line, provides for the adoption of a 48-volt “light” hybrid system for the most popular petrol and diesel versions and an even richer and more modern endowment of the multimedia system and electronic driving aids.
N LINE, LA SPORTIVA – The aesthetic changes to the Hyundai Kona they are more evident in the front part, which is well diversified according to the layout. While introducing the novelty of the wheel arches in the same color of the body and having a completely new front, the N Line is more reminiscent of the current model, with the house logo in the center of the grille and the integrated headlights with large black plates that simulate the sockets air. The whole, however, has a more horizontal development and a sportier character, thanks also to the spoiler with floating “L” side flaps. Then there are the 18-inch alloy wheels and the rear bumper with a large insert that recalls the aerodynamic diffusers in style; the lights are also new. The interiors are in black, with seats in fabric or mixed leather and suede, red stitching and exposed metal pedals.
ELONGATED – The others Hyundai Kona they become a little less showy and present a greater integration of the different style elements. Here, the logo is placed at the top of the hood, at the same level as the subtle LED daytime running lights and above the double air intake that resembles the shape of an hourglass. The new headlights “rest” on the opaque gray band that surrounds the entire lower part of the car. The wheels are 16, 17 and 18 inches, while the length increases by 4 cm reaching 421 in total.
DIGITAL DASHBOARD – The cockpit of the Hyundai Kona, with new colors and upholstery, a different console and the electric handbrake, toggle. Then comes a 10.25 ”digital dashboard combined with an 8-inch central display (instead of 7) and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Optional is that of 10.25 ”, connected to the network and which allows you to view multiple functions at the same time and can provide multiple Bluetooth connections. Among the various functions, we mention the indications on free parking spaces nearby (and their price).
SAFETY STILL GROWS – Also updated the electronic driving aids, which is of a high standard for a car of this category. The adaptive cruise control now also manages to stop and restart the car automatically (Stop & go function), while the blind spot sensors activate the brakes if you risk cutting off another vehicle that is overtaking us. Improves the automatic emergency braking of the Hyundai Kona (also able to detect pedestrians and cyclists) and a system that warns and brakes the car is added if, when exiting a parking lot or a driveway in the “back”, you risk impact with an oncoming vehicle. Worthy of note, then, is the device that warns if the sofa is occupied (perhaps by a child) when the vehicle is closed, and the device that prevents the doors from opening when a car arrives from behind.
CONSUME LESS – Aimed at reducing fuel consumption and emissions are the main innovations introduced on the engines and gearboxes of the Hyundai Kona. Optional in the 120 bhp 1.0 turbo petrol engine and standard on the 136 bhp 1.6 diesel are the “light” 48 V hybrid system and the iMT “intelligent” manual transmission. The latter has an electronically controlled clutch, which can automatically disconnect the engine from the wheels when you take your foot off the accelerator (lengthening the sections traveled by inertia). The diesel, however, is also present with the robotic dual-clutch gearbox and four-wheel drive. In the range, the “full” petrol version with 141 HP remains (unchanged in mechanics) and the most powerful of the Kona, the 1.6 turbo petrol, 4×4 and with double clutch gearbox, which gains 21 horsepower, reaching an altitude of 198. Then remember that this compact crossover is also electric, but in this case the update will arrive later, in the first months of 2021.
