Hysacam: new strike by employees, who demand three months of salary arrears, plunges Yaoundé into insalubrity

(Business in Cameroon) – For almost a week, the garbage collection trucks of the Hygiène et salubrite du Cameroun (Hysacam) company have not been seen in the streets of the city of Yaoundé, where piles of garbage are again visible here and there. And for good reason, we learn, the employees of this company are again on strike, to demand the unpaid wages for three months.

From internal sources to the company, these unpaid bills are the consequence of cash flow tensions, themselves consecutive to the accumulation of unpaid invoices by the State and the decentralized territorial communities, with which Hysacam is under contract for the collection of garbage. in the large Cameroonian metropolises. To date, the unpaid debts of the State and the local authorities are estimated at at least 10 billion FCFA, we learn from good sources.

This new change of mood at Hysacam comes as in August 2021, this company exhibited in several cities of the country a batch of 100 newly acquired trucks. “These new trucks will ensure the cleanliness of cities as Cameroon prepares to host a major sporting event, CAN Total Energies 2021. They will also improve the frequency of passage of collection trucks. in the neighborhoods, to set up the meeting of the housewife and to considerably reduce the heaps of garbage in the cities ”, then confided Michel Ngapanoun, CEO of Hysacam. With the social climate which is again heavy within this company for a week, a big mortgage now weighs on the ambitions of the CEO.
