The Hurricane Festival in Scheeßel – one of the largest music festivals in Germany – starts on Friday. And as usual with the Hurricane, the really big names are coming, but also a few insider tips.
The Hurricane team has made a really big catch with Peter Fox: The new album “Love Songs” has just been released. With this record, the Seeed singer celebrates a much-acclaimed solo comeback. On stage, Peter Fox is guaranteed to be one of the highlights at Hurricane on Friday. ARTE and NDR.de will also broadcast Peter Fox’s performance as a live stream. This year there are a surprising number of German artists among the headliners – for example Kraftklub or Alle Farben. But also the German-Croatian rapper RIN from Baden-Württemberg.
Stadium skirt by Muse
On Saturday there could possibly be mutual guest appearances – the two buddies Marteria and Casper will appear on the same day anyway. But the Hurricane Festival has also collected long-established rock figures internationally, including Billy Talent, Queens Of The Stone Age and Placebo. Real stadium rock is available from Muse this year.
The insider tips: Power Plush and Loyle Carner
But something smaller is also possible. For example, there is a recommendable indie band on Sunday afternoon on the smaller Mountain Stage: They are called Power Plush, they come from Chemnitz and are currently still an insider tip. Loyle Carner from South London, for example, provides relaxed and sophisticated hip-hop.
Alli Neumann, Nina Chuba and Tash Sultana stir up the hurricane
Really big female names are missing – again. When it comes to the headliners, the Hurricane Festival prefers to concentrate on the safe banks – and this year they are mainly male. But there are a few good exceptions: singer Alli Neumann comes by, as does her Hamburg colleague Nina Chuba. Tash Sultana, from Australia and declared non-binary, is also breaking up the men’s party a bit.
Grand finale with the doctors
But who knows, maybe the traditionally party-mad audience won’t even notice the bad gender ratio. At the Hurricane Festival, aside from the party, many people tend to look at the weather conditions: here there is often only a choice between rainy and muddy and insanely hot with lots of dust. This year it will probably be the latter variant. And then there’s the grand finale: there has been a lot of criticism from doctors’ fans of the band recently, because of the tasteless knock-out announcements Rammstein reference. But in the end everyone will probably be hugging each other at the Die Ärzte concert on Sunday evening anyway.
