Hungary’s Ultimatum: The Irresponsibility of EU Members and the Future of Ukraine

Hungary’s blocking of Ukraine’s movement into the EU at the summit in December will be the result of the irresponsibility of other member countries, said Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olga Stefanishyna.

She said this while speaking at the German Council on Foreign Relations, she is quoted as saying The Guardianreports “European Truth”.

“It’s about talking to each other, convincing each other and helping those who still doubt or try to veto the future of Europe, talk to them and take responsibility for that veto,” Stefanishyna said.

“Because if we talk about the veto of one country on December 15, it will not be the veto of one country. It will be the irresponsibility of others – those who do not build this consensus, who do not work to focus on the bigger picture of the future of Europe. I think “We all know what I mean, and that’s how we read it, that’s how we feel about it,” she added.

Let us recall that on the eve of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban wrote a letter to the head of the European Council Charles Michel, in which threatened to block all European Union assistance for Ukraine, as well as the country’s future accession to the European Union, if EU leaders do not agree to reconsider their entire strategy of supporting Kyiv.

The Hungarian government also announced manipulative “consultations” with the population, the main issue of which will be support for Ukraine’s membership in the EU.

Michelle will arrive in Budapest on Monday for bilateral negotiations with Orbán in preparation for the European Council meeting in December.
