TSV Rottenbauer: Honorary Award Winners for Dedication to Sports Facility Maintenance

TSV Rottenbauer can proudly claim to have the largest connected sports facility in the Würzburg city area. However, numerous grass pitches, tennis courts, padel courts and a riding stable also require a lot of work. However, the club can rely on its two most hard-working members.

Many years ago, Bernd Rupprecht and Ronald Ehrenberger took on the mammoth task of maintaining the site and also doing all the other work that needed to be done. For this voluntary commitment, the duo has now been awarded the honorary award “Good Souls in the Club” at the Main Post “Board of the Year” campaign.

A club where everyone knows everyone

The 60-year-old Bernd Rupprecht has been a member of the TSV since 1968 and has played through all the football teams up to the senior level. His companion Ronald Ehrenberger, who is 18 years younger, moved to Rottenbauer in 2000 and found a place in the second team. “TSV is a club where everyone knows everyone. I spend time here, it’s like a family,” says the younger of the two.

The fact that they became the good souls of the club is mainly thanks to one man: Werner Rummel, who was also honored in the past as part of the “Board of the Year” campaign, taught them both a lot. Back then, Rummel was responsible for every conceivable job that came up on and off the site.

“When Werner’s health got worse and worse, he got more and more involved with us. For example, we were taken aside and then he explained to us how to mow the lawn,” remembers Ronald Ehrenberger of his teacher. Ehrenberger and Rupprecht were already noticeable for their hard work and commitment and were the logical successors to Rummel, who died shortly afterwards.

The supporting pillars of the club

Club board member Matthias Purucker only has words of praise for his two good souls: “You can tell: for both of them, the club comes first. They see the problems and take care of them themselves. They relieve the board of directors a lot and are essentially their own department.” The tandem’s activities ranged from watering the square to organizing the wine festival. “With their competence, the two of them are the pillars of the club. When it comes to the pitch, they are basically above the board. And the result speaks for itself. Without Ronald and Bernd, our pitch would not be one of the best in the area. “

The time that the two members invest in the TSV is considerable. “That’s two to three hours almost every day and on match day we’re on site all day,” explains Bernd Rupprecht. For him, the sports club is also his biggest hobby, so he doesn’t have to miss out on anything. His colleague agrees with him: “80 percent of my hobbies are TSV. But I don’t have to make any cuts in the remaining 20 percent, that’s fine.”

Over the years the two have developed a great respect for each other. Bernd Rupprecht praises his younger colleague above all for his drive. Conversely, Ronald Ehrenberger appreciates his partner, who is 18 years his senior, for his wealth of experience. “I can learn so much from him every day.”

The 60-year-old Rupprecht can imagine slowing down a bit in the medium term. He then wants to decide for himself when he stops. Of course, friend and companion Ronald Ehrenberger will continue to ensure that the sports grounds are in top condition.

In the Main Post “Board of the Year” campaign Board members and active members of six clubs from the city and district of Würzburg were honored in various categories for 2023. The campaign is organized in collaboration with the city of Würzburg and the district office, and the prize money is donated by Sparkasse Mainfranken Würzburg.

All honored board members and the honorees in the category “Good Souls in the Club” are presented in detail by this editorial team in separate articles.
