Huge Decomposing Humpback Whale Washes Ashore in Zeeland, Netherlands

A dead humpback whale washed up on the beach at Burgh-Haamstede in Zeeland on Monday. The whale is about 7 meters long and is in an advanced state of decomposition.

The dead humpback whale has been spotted before. The animal then drifted about 8 miles from shore. The carcass was transported to the coast due to the strong wind.

The whale will remain on the beach until Tuesday. The animal was swollen and exploded last night, the Marine Rescue Team Netherlands reports. The rescue team had been keeping an eye on the animal for a while.

According to the SOS Dolfijn foundation, humpback whales do not often wash ashore in the Netherlands. Last year there were three.
