Hamburg – Hamburger SV started the new season of the second division with a win over the Bundesliga relegated Fortuna Düsseldorf.
In the top game of the opening day, the North Germans prevailed 2-1 (1-0). Newcomer Simon Terodde scored both goals in Hamburg in front of 1000 spectators (45th minute / penalty, 60th). Matthias Zimmermann (90 + 3) met for Fortuna. In the 55th duel between the two clubs, it was the first game in the second division.
Four days after the 1: 4 bankruptcy in the DFB Cup against third division club SG Dynamo Dresden, Hamburg started more committed. Coach Daniel Thioune had converted his team to four positions. The Osnabrück defender Moritz Heyer, who was signed in a blitz the day before, came into play after only one easy training session. He replaced Toni Leistner, who was banned for at least three games after an attack on a Dresden fan.
Heyer also had the first chance to score, but headed the ball to the side netting (8th minute). The Hamburger took the pace out of the game after 20 minutes, but still set the tone. Although the Düsseldorfer came up, but remained harmless the entire season. The game flattened out and could not meet expectations. Fortuna had little chance. Top scorer Terodde got rid of Hamburg’s worries with his second goal after a counterattack and was allowed to take a shower earlier.
In the second game of the day, Jahn Regensburg and 1. FC Nürnberg separated 1: 1 (0: 1). In front of 3011 fans in the Jahnstadion, which was filled with spectators for the first time in almost seven months, the guests had taken the lead through Tim Handwerker (43rd minute). Max Besuschkow equalized in the second half with a hand penalty (58th). The hosts of coach Mersad Selimbegovic were the more active and courageous team. The Nürnbergers, where head coach Robert Klauss celebrated his league debut, lacked the coordination and the successful ideas for building up the game.
