HSBC Launches New Year ATM ‘Welcome Banknote’ Withdrawal Service in Hong Kong

During the Chinese New Year and holidays, many people want to exchange new banknotes and distribute red packets. In the past, you either had to make a reservation in advance or you had to queue at the counter. However, this year HSBC has introduced a new approach and will launch Hong Kong’s first New Year ATM “Welcome Banknote” withdrawal service from January 25 to 31. It will be available at the Easy Banking Centers of Mong Kok, Kwun Tong and Tuen Mun Town Plaza branches, as well as three Withdraw HKD $20 and $50 “Welcome Notes” from designated ATMs of mobile banks covering 18 public housing estates in Hong Kong.

Make an appointment to exchange new banknotes from January 18th

In addition to designated teller machines, HSBC will also continue the special arrangements for new banknotes and “welcome banknotes” from previous years.Just like in previous years, starting from January 18 this year, you can use the HSBC Mobile Banking App (full version and simple version) orHSBC Hong Kong website, make an appointment to redeem the new banknotes/”Welcome New Banknote” set at the branch from January 25th to February 9th. The total value of each package is HK$3,000 or HK$6,000. The bank will confirm the appointment via SMS.

Starting from January 18, you can make reservations for new banknotes/”Welcome Banknote” packages through the HSBC Mobile Banking App or on the HSBC Hong Kong website.

Bank note exchange arrangements

  • From January 25 to 27, HSBC branches will open one hour earlier at 8 a.m.;
  • Customers can go to a branch in the morning to pick up banknotes on the spot, and exchange new banknotes at the branch at a designated time on the same day;
  • Branches will have express counters to redeem a new banknote set for customers with valid chip numbers;
  • If customers have not collected chips or made an appointment online, they can also redeem “Welcome Banknotes” at branches;
  • HSBC Premier Elite and HSBC Premier customers can contact their relationship manager to reserve the new banknotes for collection at the time and branch of their choice.

Of course, you can also choose to use the HSBC Mobile Banking app to distribute e-Laise.
