Expatriates Stranded in Israel: Air Ticket Crisis and the Struggle to Return Home

Kottayam: Malayali expatriates in Israel are worried about not being able to return home or go back from the country due to increased air ticket prices. The ticket price for one way only is Rs. Air India flights to Israel have been suspended since October. Most of the services are operated by Etihad and Emirates flights.

People who have come for vacation are also unable to go back because the ticket prices are so high. Elderly care workers are the most vulnerable to such a crisis. They, on the other hand, are unable to go to the embassy and provide information.

Their opinion is that even if they go alone, it is useless. “We are not an organized force. So the authorities don’t even bother to listen to the problems. Even after getting leave, it is not possible to go home. It would have been better if the authorities had intervened,” said a native of Kottayam on the phone from Israel.
