Hrynkevich Jr. was taken into custody – court decision

On January 22, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv ordered a preventive measure against Roman Hrynkevich, the son of businessman Ihor Hrynkevich, who is involved in the criminal proceedings concerning the purchase of clothing for the Armed Forces. According to the correspondent of Radio Svoboda, the court decided to take Hrynkevich Jr. into custody for two months with an alternative bail of 500 million hryvnias.

Roman Hrynkevich’s lawyers announced that they will file an appeal against the court’s decision on January 23.

“The preventive measure is unfounded, the amount of the bail is known to be excessive… The court is subject to public influence and does not fully make legal and well-founded decisions,” said Andriy Gujal, Roman Hrynkevich’s lawyer.

Roman Hrynkevich himself denies that he intended to flee abroad: “In my opinion, this is pure discredit, and the facts that are cited, I believe, have absolutely no force, when today the General Prosecutor’s Office claims that I was, as it were, going to cross the border. But I was detained while in the apartment. I am not going to leave the country, I will prove my honor and my rightness, because everything that is happening now is just a farce or someone’s order, which is carried out both for me as the director of my company and for my family members.”

After the end of the court session, prosecutor Yaroslav Havryshchuk also made a comment.

“The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and I know and understand that the question regarding the employees of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, officials of the Ministry of Defense, is resonant and interesting to everyone, but you must understand that today all possible participants in the specified criminal proceedings, including officials of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, they were not notified of the suspicion, but in order to obtain complete, proper and admissible evidence, it is necessary to perform certain investigative and procedural actions. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, the SBI, the specialized prosecutor’s office in the field of defense are working, they have found a person who has been hiding since January 18, 2024,” the representative of the prosecution emphasized.

Earlier, Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said that the fifth participant in the case of purchasing clothes for the Armed Forces was detained in Odesa in the morning of January 22.

The Pechersk District Court allowed the arrest of the fifth suspect in the case of the purchase of clothes and underwear for the military on January 19.

On January 18, it became known that the SBI had declared Roman Hrynkevich wanted. He is one of the five suspects in the criminal proceedings on the purchase of clothing for the Armed Forces. According to the investigation, the amount of purchases reached almost 1 billion hryvnias. Three other suspects were remanded in custody for two months at the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv, with the possibility of bail in the amount of 500 million hryvnias.

The main figure in the case – businessman Ihor Hrynkevich – has been in custody since the end of December 2023. He was detained during an attempt to pay a bribe of 500,000 dollars to one of the heads of the main investigative department of the SBI for assistance in the return of property seized from companies controlled by him during the investigation of criminal proceedings. Then Hrynkevich was informed about the suspicion of offering an illegal benefit to an official. On January 17, he was also informed of the suspicion in the case regarding the procurement of clothing for the Armed Forces.

Five members of the organization, which, according to the SBI, was created by Ihor Hrynkevich, were informed of the suspicion of creating and participating in a criminal organization, in fraud committed under martial law.
