How to Sign in to a Microsoft Account Without a Password

WASHINGTON – Microsoft now allows its users to remove passwords from their accounts. The software giant will allow users to log into Microsoft accounts with the Microsoft Authenticator app, Windows Hello, security keys, or SMS/email verification codes, in lieu of passwords.

The new option comes just months after Microsoft began rolling out passwordless authentication for commercial users, to help people adjust to the realities of remote work.

“When I think about security, I think you have to protect your whole life,” said Vasu Jakkal, vice president of security, compliance & identity firm. Microsoft , in an interview with The Verge.

Microsoft have been working towards a passwordless future for years, and the pandemic has only accelerated things.

“The number of digital attacks continues to increase exponentially, this is a big driving factor for us in accelerating many of our security initiatives,” added Jakkal.

The process of removing Microsoft account passwords is relatively simple. The trick is to install the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app and be linked to an Account Microsoft user private.

When finished, then visit account.microsoft.com and select the advanced security option, then activate the account without a password in the additional security section.

After approving the changes from the Authenticator app, the user will be password free. Users can also reverse changes and add passwords back to their Microsoft accounts at any time.
