How to update to iOS 16

There are two methods to upgrade to iOS 16: OTA and Computer Software Update, Mac Update.

Method 1: Update iOS 16 on your device via OTA (Over The Air) without using a computer.

  • Requires high-speed Wi-Fi. The internet must be strong
  • After the update, the data in the device is not lost. But it should be backed up first.
  • Your device should have 3-5GB or more of space remaining. You will be prompted to delete apps or games that take up a lot of space first.
  • During the update, the battery of the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch should be charged.

Steps to update iOS 16 OTA

Go to Settings> General> Software update> touch Download and install

Wait for your iPhone and iPod Touch to finish installing iOS 16> enter your Apple ID password and wait a few minutes for the iCloud setup to complete.

If the internet is not strong enough until the update failed. It can be updated via the iTunes app on a computer or Mac as follows.

Method 2: update iOS 16 via computer, Mac

  • The device must be connected to the computer with a USB Lightning charging cable.
  • In newer versions of macOS, the iTunes app is no longer available and must be run through the Finder.
  • For Windows, iTunes is required. Download the latest version of iTunes.
  • Your computer’s hard disk space must be sufficient for updates.
  • The Internet connection with a computer must be at a speed greater than 10 Mbps or higher, since the iOS IPSW firmware must be downloaded with a relatively large file size.
  • After the update, the data in the device is not lost. But it should be backed up first.

An example of updating iOS 16 on a Mac, older computer, or Mac is done through the iTunes app, which is similar.

Connect your iPhone to Mac with a Lightning cable> open Finder> click the iPhone icon next to it> wait for the system to check for updates, then click Update (preview only. Because many people may not be in able to update via computer)

Then select the downloaded iOS 16 IPSW file.

Click Install and wait for iOS 16 to finish installing.

For iOS 16 public beta users How to update the official version of iOS 16?

Remove the test profile first.

Go to Settings> General> VPN & Device Management.

Select the iOS 16 Beta software profile> tap Remove profile and restart.

Then update the official version of iOS 16 as usual.

By deleting the iOS 16 Beta software profile from the device, we will no longer be able to update other iOS 16 Beta versions.
