WhatsApp has launched a feature to schedule auto-disappearing messages after the next seven days for Android and iOS worldwide starting today.
Messages that can be scheduled for automatic disappearance apply to text, video and photo messages. This feature applies to personal chats. For group chats, the admin must activate the auto-disappearing feature option so that group members can use this feature.
When activated, WhatsApp messages that enter the user’s cellphone will disappear within 7 days. It is possible that users in Indonesia will be able to use this feature in the next few days.
The message will still disappear automatically, even if the message has been read or not by the recipient. The seven-day count will start as soon as the message is sent, like a similar feature in Telegram.
When the user replies to a message, the original message is quoted. If the message you reply to is a temporary one, the quoted message may also remain in chat after 7 days.
If a temporary message is forwarded to a chat that has turned off the temporary messaging feature, the message won’t be lost in the forwarded chat. If users create a backup before messages are lost, temporary messages are included in the backup.
WhatsApp Remind users to use the temporary messaging feature only with people they trust. Because, strangers can forward or take screenshots of temporary messages and save them before the message is lost.
Copy and temporarily save message content before it is lost. Then, take a temporary photo of the message with the camera or other device before the message disappears.
By default, WhatsApp explains that messages that users receive on WhatsApp will be automatically downloaded to the user’s photo. If the message feature is temporarily turned on, media sent in chats will be lost but will be saved on the phone if auto download is on.
Here’s how to activate the WhatsApp feature for 7 days of automatic lost messages on Android, iOS, KaiOS, and WhatsApp web or desktop:
Android
1. Open the WhatsApp chat.
2. Select a contact on your WhatsApp.
3. Click Disappearing Messages.
4. Then click Continue.
5. The message will disappear in seven days.
IOS
1. Open the WhatsApp chat.
2. Select a contact on your WhatsApp.
3. Click Disappearing Messages.
4. Then click Continue.
5. The message will disappear in seven days.
KaiOS
1. Open the WhatsApp chat.
2. Click Options> View Contact> click Ok.
3. Select Disappearing Messages> click Edit.
4. Select On> Ok.
WhatsApp Web or Desktop
1. Open the WhatsApp chat.
2. Select a contact on your WhatsApp.
3. Click Disappearing Messages.
4. Then click Continue.
5. The message will disappear in seven days.
